Finally Finished Spinning :)

As I promised... I finished the skein of yarn from the Rollin Rolags (http://twinmommycreations.blogspot.com/2013/02/rolling-rolags.html) post...

Here is the yarn that resulted... I must say that I love it :)

The fiber is a mix of just about anything you can think of... Alpaca, Angora, Border Leicester, East Friesian, Mohair, Merino, Silk, Angelina, Suri Locks, etc.

DollarShaveClub.com...

So, I was checking out someone else's blog and decided to give her suggestion a try... the site is DollarShaveClub.com - http://www.dollarshaveclub.com/ref/index/r/7wvj/1s1zhkk/s/tx/cx/1/

From what I can tell, you get a razor and refills shipped to you every month... the prices are $1, $6, and $9 a month... You pick which subscription you want.

It is an auto bill, but you can cancel at anytime... I went ahead and ordered the $6 a month one for my boyfriend and figured if he doesn't like it, I can always cancel... shoot, I have wasted more than $6 before :)

The razors appear to be similar to Gilette or BIC... oh and the video ad on the website is hilarious :)

Check it out and Ill post an update when the razor arrives :)

Rolling Rolags???

So, what exactly are rolags??? They are basically just a roll of fiber. They can be loose or tight, but should be tight enough that when you go to draft, they dont fall apart, lol...

Since I have not made my blending board yet, I have made some rolags using my friend, Laurie's, drum carder... A blending board is just that, a board with little tines on it, so when you lay and brush the fiber on the board, it blends together :)

These three sets were all first attempts for me...

As you can tell, they are not very even... this is just because I really had no idea what I was doing, just decided that I was going to give it a try, lol...

The rolags contain just about every kind of fiber you can think of... alpaca, merino, angelina, angora, east friesian, border leicester, suri alpaca locks, nylon, and some other mystery fibers...

I started spinning the rolags on a large Turkish spindle (first time using it)...

I decided to use the rolags in a pattern, one from each color scheme until I ran out...

Hopefully I will be able to finish getting the yarn plied and washed... another post with pics to follow :)

Hand Painted Thread...

Since I have been preparing and listing more and more hand painted thread on Etsy, I decided to take some pictures of "my stash" of thread... Just some pics of what they look like in hank form, as well as wound onto "handmade" PVC bobbins... The bobbins fit into the Lizbeth thread holders too... so its a double bonus :)
Neon Green that fades into a mix of lighter green and white

A mix of Green and Dark Purple - reminds me of a grape vine

This one goes from Red to Orange to Yellow and then has some white bits too
Reminds me of Florida Gator colors... but the blue is too light

Red that goes into pink... this one would have been perfect for Valentine's Day

And here is a favorite for me... it is a pastel-y tie dye... absolutely beautiful :)

These are just a few of the examples of "dye" jobs I have been working on... there are also some others listed on my Etsy shop... www.etsy.com/shop/TwinMommyCreations

Bobbin Lace... Bookmark :)

As you may already know, I have recently started hand painting crochet/tatting thread and selling them on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/TwinMommyCreations)...

Well with all the dyeing, there are some not so appealing colors... or in this case, a color scheme that I fell in love with and could not sell :)
I decided to use some of it for bobbin lace... so, how about a bookmark...

Just in case you are wondering, the pillow was handmade with my friend Laurie during our bobbin lace meeting in October 2012... I absolutely love it...

Here is a close up of the bookmark... I actually finished it up last night, but forgot to get a picture...

I was extremely pleased with how the threads/colors all worked together so nicely... For specifics, the thread is a size 20 :)

Bobbin Lace Scarf...

My most recent bobbin lace project is a scarf... I decided on January 13th at last months lace meeting that I wanted to try something bigger than a bookmark... so I went for a scarf :)
Of course I only had 24 bobbins (4 of which I could not find for the life of me), so the scarf is not very wide... Only about 2" wide... but 76" long with fringe

I have recently purchased some more bobins from a couple people online and am hoping to start another scarf, but one that is at least 4" wide, lol.

The yarn is Cascade "Pearls" in a Blue, Purple, and Black Colorway... 55.7% Cotton and 44.3% Rayon... it is a thick/thin type yarn, so working the bobbins sometimes became a pain... but it turned out pretty nice... I think so anyways, lol :)

The Birds Have Landed... at Etsy :)

New Bird Pendants have just been listed on Etsy... www.etsy.com/shop/TwinMommyCreations ... They are made from Polymer Clay and then finished with a satin glaze...
Custom orders are always welcome... do not see a color you like or have an idea... let me know and I will get it worked out for you :)
As a previous bird trainer (prior to having kids)... birds are mesmerizing... they are free... and can soar where ever they feel like it... I try to live each day to the fullest and never look back... I wear a bird necklace daily with pride... want to join me???
